Balancing Masculine & Feminine Will Bring us Home
In tantra, the feminine is the energetic, emotional aspect of creation - flowing, beingness, power through energy.
The masculine, ideally resting in balanced harmony with this feminine aspect, represents awareness, structure, stillness, the shaping and guiding container in union with the feminine.
The tantric ideal is harmonious balance through cultivation of both these energies in oneself to support and exalt each other.
In the western world where attributes associated with the masculine have been disproportionately valued - all of our concepts of power, success, leadership, and value skew strongly towards the masculine attributes of guiding, shaping, detachment, knowing from a place of witness, shaping knowledge through concepts and calm interrogation,
and away from the feminine concepts of feeling, energetic attunement, intuition that comes from being embedded in the field without conceptual detachment, beingness, and skilled aliveness to the flow of creation through one's own embodiment - the drive to rebalance the feminine and masculine energies is such an important step at this moment in time.
In order to bring our relationship to the earth and to ourselves back into harmony, and to create a peaceful path forward for humanity, we need to bring our attention, energy, and cultivation to the feminine aspect of ourselves - to balance out the feminine and masculine aspects of our beings.
To bring love, care, deep valuing, and healing to our emotional states - to allow ourselves to attune to our emotions as if they were as important as winning a chess match, attending a board meeting, or having the best answer in the classroom. To let ‘how am I feeling’, and ‘how is that impacting the field’, be as important as who won the running race.
To rest into our beingness and explore its contours, to learn from the differences in shade between being in this moment or that. To become more energetically attuned to ourselves, and through this, to others, and to our environment. To let our willingness to be vulnerable be a valuable and valued thing, recognised as such amongst our peers.
And to do this with love, and compassion for ourselves, and for the imbalance we have found ourselves in. To be curious, and excited, about what a world built on a more balanced populace would look like, and what areas of thriving and expression will open up in our society because of our willingness to open up to these aspects of ourselves.
Indeed so atrophied has cultivation of the feminine been in most western societies, that we, as a people, are mostly not even fully aware what excellence in the feminine aspect would look like.
We have seen some glimpses of the feminine in its power in roles which our society has tolerated and even valued to an extent - roles of nurturing, consoling, caring and attuning to the states of others through counselling and emotional awareness, sensuality and sexuality and these are beautiful.
But the full power to heal, transform, create, enrich, and enliven our very concept of what it means to be human - through energetic awareness, attunement with the isness of the universe, and the arts associated with the feminine aspect, are only really in their infancy of awareness in western societies.
As we consciously turn towards our own emotions and energy with love and intention, to bring care, awareness and valuing to how we’re feeling and being in the world, we do our work to balance the masculine - feminine in our collective and create an opportunity for harmony and peace to thrive in our communities. It is one of the most important things that we can be doing at this time of great awakening and opening for humanity - the choice of peace, harmony and unification that will lead us home to our whole selves.
